Julie-Anne Jones lives in suburban Wollongong. She is married to Peter, mother of three, grandmother of one and a keen observer of life. She has written poetry for most of her life, self-publishing a book of poetry titled ‘Creation Speaks,’ in 2016. Apart from her love for words, reading and writing them, Julie-Anne enjoys walking and sometimes hiking through the Australian bush. Playing her piano is another favourite pastime, which has created a part time job as a music teacher. This was a natural evolution from her formal role as a primary teacher, specialising in music and drama for many years.
Julie-Anne grew up in an Aboriginal community on Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria and loved the tenor of life set by the Aboriginal community. About ten years ago she met Adelaide Wenberg at a local, church community group in Wollongong. The more she got to know her, the more she felt drawn into Adelaide’s story of survival from the Stolen Generation and knew it was a story begging to be told. She has found it an immense privilege to learn firsthand about Adelaide’s life and to be trusted with the faithful telling of her story.
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t mesmerised by the beauty of creation and the endless possibility of words. During the course of my life, I have developed a passion for both – immersing myself in creation and then pouring out my appreciation in poetry. This book contains thirteen poems about my personal encounters with creation, accompanied by some beautiful photographs of the Australian coastline. Buy this book today.
